Passing through the Cherubim

V 24 God places the cherubim with a flaming sword at the entrance of Eden not to keep Adam and Eve out but to guard the way, lest they eat of the Tree of Immortality in the state of duality. The implies that Adam and Eve had not been immortal.

So, the cherubim with the flaming sword. What do they represent?

Buddishm describes the Gateless gate and claim that there is absolutely nothing preventing us from entering the state of Nirvana except fear and desire - The two things that keep the illusion of duality going. One of the messages of the Buddha is that the whole point of our lives is to pass through the gateless gate.

So, here we are. You,me, Adam, Eve and every living thing. We are outside of Eden, fending for ourselves in a dangerous world where there are earthquakes, hurricanes, unemployment, uncertainty, suffering and injustice. Of course, we can all imagine a perfect world where we all embody the bliss our original oneness. It must be somewhere. It involves a return to the One, to unity consciousness. Jesus said, I and the Father are One; the Buddha said at enlightenment, I am one with all things,

Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.
Do not believe in anything because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers or elders.
But after observation and analysis,

when you find that anything agrees with reason,
and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all,
then accept it and live to it.
The Buddha, in the Kalama Sutra
